Design

The Mood Check is a 19-item inspired by the work of Dr. David D. Burns, MD, a pioneer in cognitive behavioral therapy and psychological scale design. It’s a simple, scientifically-validated tool for measuring your levels of depression, anxiety, and anger. Additionally, it explores happiness, a key component of well-being, and connection, reflecting how supported and engaged you feel with yourself, others, and the world around you.

The Mood Check is designed to help you reflect, gain insight, and track patterns over time. It’s more than just a survey — it’s a tool for better understanding yourself.

Mood Score

Your Mood Score is a single number between 0 and 10, designed to give you a snapshot of your overall emotional state. Lower scores indicate a more negative state of mind, while higher scores suggest positivity and well-being. Moods are not inherently "good" or "bad," but a consistently low score may signal that professional support could be beneficial. Use the table below to help interpret your score:

2-4 Purple Low Low energy, struggling
4-6 Orange So-so Neutral or slightly off
6-8 Green Good Feeling content and balanced
8-10 Radiant red Great Energized, happy, and thriving

Negativity

The first 10 items of the Mood Check measure your levels of depression, anxiety, and anger. These scores are presented as percentages (0-100%), giving you an easy way to track what might be weighing on you. You’ll also receive a Negativity Score (0-10) to summarize your overall negative feelings.

What the categories mean:
  • Depression: Feeling down, unmotivated, or hopeless.
  • Anxiety: Feeling tense, worried, or uneasy.
  • Anger: Feeling frustrated, irritated, or stuck.
How to understand you Negativity Score:
Score Meaning
0-2 Minimally negative
2-4 Somewhat negative
4-6 Moderately negative
6-8 A lot negative
8-10 Extremely negative

Positivity

The Mood Check explores happiness, connection, and general well-being. Together, these scores make up your Positivity Score (0-10), which is designed to highlight the bright spots in your mood and inspire reflection. Positivity scores are also presented as percentages (0-100%).

What the categories mean:
  • Happiness: Feeling joyful, satisfied, or optimistic.
  • Connection: Feeling close to others, supported, or at peace with yourself.
How to understand you Positivity Score:
Range Meaning
0-2 Minimally positive
2-4 Somewhat positive
4-6 Moderately positive
6-8 A lot positive
8-10 Extremely positive

Why It Matters

Your scores provide a snapshot of how you’re feeling right now. They’re a useful tool for reflection, helping you recognize patterns and identify areas for growth. Over time, your results can help you notice trends and discover what truly helps you thrive.
